Why there's a fridge magnet in your coffee box

Starting this month, every Who Is Coffee order comes with something extra: a fridge magnet. Not a sticker or a coupon. A small, collectible magnet that I design and 3D print in our office, with a new one every month. (The printer has barely stopped all week.)

It's a small idea with a simple goal. Good coffee should be part of your everyday, and the fridge is where every day starts. So we're putting something there that reminds you to make the good stuff, gives you something to look forward to in every box, and, with one tap of your phone, helps you figure out what to brew next.

Here's how it works, and a first look at October's magnet.

What is the monthly magnet?

Every month gets its own magnet design, and every order that month ships with one, free. The magnet in your box changes with the calendar. Order in October, you get October's. Order in November, you get November's.

Each one also has a small chip inside. Tap it with your phone and it opens our Coffee Concierge. More on that below.

Why a magnet?

We believe better coffee makes better days. But the hard part usually isn't brewing. It's the half-awake moment when the bag is empty and you grab whatever's in the cabinet.

The fridge is where most mornings start. I wanted something small that lives there and reminds you to make the good stuff, and something to look forward to in every box.

Meet the October magnet

Our first one is a Halloween magnet: a quick poster scene to wish you and all your kiddos a Happy Halloween!. It's free with every order through October 31, one per order, and the first batch ships Saturday.

Hold your phone near the magnet and our new Coffee Concierge opens. Tell it how you brew (drip, French press, pour-over, pods), how you take your coffee, and what you've liked or haven't, and it recommends what to try next. No app to download, and no coffee vocabulary required.

What's coming next

November brings a Thanksgiving magnet, December a Christmas one, and every month after that gets its own design. Each design only ships during its month, so the set on your fridge becomes a small record of every month you made the good stuff.

How to get yours

  1. Order any coffee from whoiscoffee.com, or grab a bag at our farmers market booth.

  2. Your order ships with that month's magnet.

  3. Stick it on the fridge. When your bag gets light, tap it and let the Concierge help you pick the next one.

Quick answers

  • Is it really free? Yes. Every order gets that month's magnet.

  • How many can I get? One per order.

  • Will I get a new one every month? Yes, whenever you order that month. Each month has its own design.

  • Do I need an app? No. Your phone opens the Concierge in the browser.

  • My phone didn't do anything. Unlock it and hold the magnet near the top back of an iPhone or the center back of an Android. On Android, make sure NFC is on in settings.

  • What happens on November 1? The Halloween magnet retires and the Thanksgiving one takes over.
